Hannah and Bryan met at 8th Day Gym in Grand Rapids, MI. When we began planning their engagement session they expressed a desire to do some of their session at the gym and incorporating their love of crossfit. I always enjoy getting to know my couples while they are doing something that they love or in a location that is important to them and their story. Engagement sessions are meant to be fun, relaxed and a time to get to know your photographer before your big day. Be sure to consider unique locations that are important or significant to you and your fiancé. Cheers!
Jess and Ben are so adorable together. Listening to Jess talk about how they met and how all the pieces just magically fell into place was so special Watching Ben listen to Jess tell their proposal story was my favorite part about spending the afternoon with them. I watched Jess's face completely lit up as she shared with me the story of how she got proposed to in Aruba on the beach. I cannot wait for their wedding day next year and I've already started a countdown! Cheers!
In Mt. Pleasant, on Pickard Street, I met one of my closest friends, Caitlin, in a small cinder block building, called Doozie's Ice Cream Place. That was nearly 10 years ago and in those 10 years Caitlin and I have shared some of life's most memorable moments that include being neighbors, celebrating weddings, drinking too much and so many more. Caitlin is one of the most genuine, free spirited, and best friends that I know. Oh, and she know how to throw one heck of a wedding! Last summer, I celebrated by her side in Leland, Michigan for a fun filled weekend. I wept as I watched her dance with her dad and danced the night away under the northern Michigan stars with all our friends
When Caitlin asked me to take her one year anniversary photos with Max; I couldn't say no. Max was the perfect addition to Caitlin's life. They compliment each other and are best of friends. During their last year of marriage I have watched them fall deeper in love together. I asked Max what his biggest lesson learned his first year of marriage and he simply said, "I wish I had done it sooner." ..... (I know right! How adorable and perfect!) During their anniversary session we laughed our way through cutting their cake and doing ballerina twirls in the sunset; it was literally perfect. Happy Anniversary Max and Caitlin Lovejoy. I wish you many more years of making beautiful memories together!
Cree, Christian and I met this winter in a Biggby; and once we met to begin discussing their wedding, I was instantly excited for Cree's vision of her day and even her engagement session. She told me about the beautiful gown that she wanted to wear and I was sold! We began discussing their Grand Rapids, MI wedding and it's hard to believe that it's already this weekend!
Cree and Christian are going to be getting ready at the Amway Hotel and exchanging vows on the beautiful, and iconic Blue Bridge. If you are not a Michigander, this Blue bridge is a iconic bridge that is located downtown and is built across the Grand River. It was built in 1892 and is one of the longest truss bridges in the state.
Saturday can't come soon enough! The weather is looking great and I know that Cree and Christian are more then ready. If you are a bride that is recently engaged and looking for a photographer for your special day Elizabeth Berghuis Photography is booking for 2019 and 2020 weddings and still has remaining dates in 2018. Cheers!
Many of my couples are braving the cold for their engagement sessions and have me falling in love with the season of winter! The snowflakes and rosey cheeks are so cute when my couples are all snuggled up together.
Paige and Joe are getting married this October and I can't wait to be a part of their day. Joe and Paige are such an easy going couple and Joe completely adores Paige. Joe was pretty quite on our engagement session but I am looking forward to cracking him open a little bit more in October and maybe capturing him break it down on the dance floor! I'll keep you posted on how my progress goes ;) haha. Enjoy!
High school sweethearts are rare. A love that you become familiar with when you are 14, 15, or 16 years old is special. It is vulnerable, exciting and unique. You never forget it. Almost always after you graduate high school your first love stays back in the hometown you grew up in along with all the memories you made with them. The late night's driving home after football games, date nights at Applebee's and dressing up for Prom.
Cady and Colton are the ones that have beaten those odds and didn't leave their love in high school ( I would say hometown too but they still live in Shepherd haha).
As you can see by the smiles on Cady's face; they are still in love. Her smile and laugh speaks for her adoration for Colton. The love that her and Colton share may be a different kind of love than in high school when they first started dating; but that is the most beautiful thing about their relationship.
Love can change, Love can evolve; but the secret to making it work is having two people who choose to love each other even when it's hard and even when they don't want to.
Love that lasts is real, raw, authentic and not even close to being perfect.
Congratulations! You have booked your engagement session and hopefully found your wedding photographer too! The day and location have been selected for your engagement portraits and then it hits you...

2018 has officially begun over here at Elizabeth Berghuis Photography. The last few weeks have been spent doing "housework" on my business; which isn't my favorite but it is very important. If you have navigated through my website the last few weeks you will have noticed a little facelift which was an exciting adventure. I have also committed to being more present on Instagram; over the next year so head over there and check it out: @ElizabethBerghuisPhotography.
Building a brand and a business is hard work! If you think photographers just wake up, shoot, edit and deliver galleries; you should come over and drink some coffee someday with me because I will gladly put you to work! haha... just joking.
Now for the good stuff! This Saturday night I couldn't wait to go to bed knowing that it was going to continue snowing through the evening. Sunday morning I woke up and west Michigan was blanketed with the perfect six inches of snow. I normally am not thrilled about snow (AT ALL!) but Sunday was my first shoot of 2018 and I was ready to get going! After spending all of January doing the business side of things. I just wanted to get my camera in my hands and in front of some clients!
Tiah and Brad were the best clients to kick off my year! They were team players when it came to the snow and cold; but every time I showed them the images on the back of my camera I think it motivated them to push through and hold each other a little bit tighter.
Tiah grew up in Ohio and Brad is from Kentucky. They both were shocked at the snow accumulation of only 12 hours in the Grand Rapids area! We made our way through Rockford, MI as the snow continued falling and adding the perfect back drop to their session. They snuggled in tight, laughed lots and even got some kisses in! I hope you enjoy!
