Holland is the most beautiful city in May and June. The tulips are blooming and the city comes to life as the sunshine turns browns to greens. Morgan and Ty had never been to Holland and I knew it would be the perfect location for their engagement session. The Holland State Park and the Window at the Waterfront were so quite due to the Stay at Home Order; so we felt like kids set loose on the playground.! I cannot wait to celebrate with them on their wedding day it is going to be a fun celebration of the love that they share for each other!

The biggest lesson that I have learned since becoming a mother is parenthood is messy, unpredictable and the most amazing adventure.
I am not a newborn or family photographer by any means but when your girlfriend from high school tells you that she wants you to take pictures of her family after welcoming their second on into their family you say YES! I photographed Aspen and Brent's wedding and I cannot believe since we celebrated their wedding they have added to little boys to their family. It was so wonderful to be able to flex my photographer muscles and do something new! Also, I definitely have baby fever again and when I told Josh he looked at me like I was crazy. haha! I hope you enjoy this cute little family and if you are going to be welcoming a new little one into your family I would love to connect with you about booking an in-home family session! They are so cozy and perfect with a newborn baby, and I promise you don't have to clean up at all... remember I just had a baby I get it ;)
The last six weeks have been a whirlwind. In the wedding industry. We have been forced to postpone weddings, book small ceremonies with only immediate family, and wonder what life will look like in 3, 6 and even 12 months from now. Planning is hard., frustration is an every day occurrence and grieving the change is a real thing for couples right now.
So many couples and wedding vendors are being faced with challenging decisions and have no answers for the future. When I spoke with Sara and Nick a few months ago we totally hit it off. We spoke on the phone like we had been friends for years and I was so excited to help them have the wedding of their dreams. Fast forward a few weeks and the corona virus outbreak was streaming over every television and the country was on lock down with no end in sight. Like many couples Nick and Sara were facing the need to post pone their wedding for the fall, but with Sara's dad not in good health they knew that they still wanted to get married on their planned date. Sara had been dreaming of the first look with her dad, their daddy daughter dance and celebrating the entire day. She refused to give up those moments with her dad.
Sara and I hopped on FaceTime and I began helping her plan an intimate ceremony. She found an amazing property that overlooked Lake Michigan and allowed them to have a beautiful ceremony and dinner together. with their closest family.. When I woke up that morning the sun was shining and I knew that they were going to have an amazing day. I arrived and instantly jumped in taking pictures and laughing about everything that has been unfolding over the last few weeks with Sara. As she finished writing her vows, I asked her about her bouquet and she looked at me like a deer in headlights; "I haven't put my bouquet together yet!" I was on it. I went downstairs and put together all of her flowers into a bouquet and I must say it looked pretty damn good! haha
Sara and Nick were married on their wedding date, it looked a little different than she originally planned but all the things that mattered the most to her happened. She had that heartfelt first look and daddy daughter dance with her father; she married the love of her life and she will still celebrate with her friends and family later this fall. This wedding and couple reminded me about why I do what I do. Wedding photographs are not just beautiful portraits that you take they are moments with your family that you don't ever want to forget. I loved being alongside of Nick and Sara and I can't wait to do it again this fall.
To all the couples out there considering postponement: don't be afraid of changing your plans and remember the things that matter most.
I am about two months late on Allison's 6 month update so I thought today would be the perfect time to share our photos from our trip to Florida! Since our last update Allison has developmentally exploded! She has begun saying one syllable words, crawling and even pulling herself to stand. I cannot believe how fast life is going right now.. We have had the opportunity to be together during the last 6 weeks since the virus outbreak, and I feel like I am going to miss being together when this is all over. When Allison was first born Josh didn't spend much time at home with her and I have been gently reminding him that this time is kind of like his paternity leave.
I can't wait to see what the next 4 months will bring as we quickly approach one year.. Josh and I are loving parenthood and the adventures it brings everyday. I hope you enjoy our photos from Florida, our first family road trip was a huge success, We spent time with my godparents and brother and made so many memories. Our trip made me excited to spend the summer on the beach of Lake Michigan with Allison. She loved the ocean, pool and even ate handfuls of sand (haha). We cannot wait for our next family trip!
Marissa, David and I met at a Starbucks a few weeks ago to meet and discuss their upcoming wedding. When I knew that they were nearly 20 minutes early we were a great match. They are planning an August 2020 wedding at the The Harris Building in downtown Grand Rapids. I won't spoil all the details but their style is on point and includes emerald green my favorite color! Can you believe that they are high school sweethearts and have never gotten professional pictures together! We had a blast and they just gently melted into each other's arms at we found the perfect little park to take their photos. I am looking forward to their big day with so much anticipation! It is going to be absolutely stunning!
